Sujit Choundry was in a roundtable discussion in Ukraine with several other scholars and constitutional experts to discuss the semi-presidential system that the country uses. They also discussed the constitutional challenge that is facing Ukraine. Choudhry said that it was clear that democracy in that nation was faced with many challenges like legislature electoral system, limit of presidential powers and week political parties.
Some of the people who were in the discussion are Thomas Sidelius of Dalarna University, Vladimir Vasilenko of Ukraine’s Human Rights, and Sergyi Holovatyi who is a member of Ukraine’s constitutional commission. Sujit Choudhry was discussing with people who have a proper knowledge of the constitutional process. Sujit has also lectured many countries and served in constitutional processes of several others.
Choudhry said that the constitution-making is an exciting topic that many experts enjoy discussing. He advised constitutional thought leaders to gather policy based options that support constitutional reforms.
