In the recent past, the leadership shared their joy as they managed to raise huge sums of money from a gala dinner, which was held in London. During the event, Andrew Rolfe was responsible for entertainment and meals. All the guests were satisfied with the meals. A Xhosa choir entertained the guests. The 300 guests were inspired by the many speeches that were delivered by different people.
Jacob Lief, who is a co-founder of the Fund, was in attendance. In his speech, he said that for children to grow, they need everything. Sinesipho Rabidyani’s speech moved the guests. She posited that her father’s drinking behavior affected her. This way, it was a herculean task for her to study at home. However, she worked hard and excelled in her exams. When the Ubuntu Fund heard about her story, they awarded her a scholarship. In addition, she was enrolled for a mentorship program and given psychosocial support. Rabidyani is looking forward to graduating from the university with a law degree.
The raised amount shall be used in augmenting the Fund’s school infrastructure. In addition, the management will develop a pediatric clinic and stock it with adequate drugs and personnel. This clinic shall serve all the needy children from the region. Completion of these programs will see the Fund increase its intake of disadvantaged children.
To date, the fund has helped more than 400,000 needy children. When it was incorporated, the management focused on offering the students with education. However, they later learnt that HIV and hunger was preventing students from excelling in their studies. It is here that they saw the need to provide them with healthcare services and nutrition.
