NuoDB technology is an SQL database designed for cloud computing. Developed and marketed by NuoDB Inc., the NuoDB technology can now be classified as a NewSQL. The database still retains the features of the old SQL with added new features that support internet hosting services.
The new SQL database can now run faster if a new server is added to scale-out the database. NuoDB SQL database technology allows expansion of its database through adding more servers instead of replacing the hardware. Its domain comprises of various redundant transaction engines and storage managers that can use the same platform to run.
NuoDB was founded in 2008 by Barry Morris and Jim Starkey. The Company deals with SQL database technology. Based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the company is accredited by Gartner Magic Quadrant. The company’s technology is applied by multiple firms like Kodiak, UAE Exchange, Alfa Systems and Dassault Systemes.
NuoDB is headed by Morris as executive chairman, Bob Walmsley as the CEO and Starkey as the company advisor. In 2012, the company patented its elastically scalable active SQL database. The launching of NuoDB 2.6 did add to the active-active database a support across the Amazon Web Services availability zone.
